The 30-second answer

Mel Lastman Square hosts six of the year's festivals; four of them are free.

Taste of North York (June), Canada Day (July 1), the Toronto Korean Festival (late August), the North York Diwali Festival (late October), the Christmas Market (late November) and the Menorah Lighting (December) all happen at 5100 Yonge St, steps from North York Centre station. Black Creek's ticketed events fill the shoulder seasons.

Dates below are the 2026 editions. Organizers have not announced most 2027 dates, so each festival shows its usual month instead.

How We Built This List

We include a festival only if it is held in North York, or if it is clearly labelled as nearby. Dates and costs come from organizer pages, the City of Toronto's Mel Lastman Square listing and The Village at Black Creek. We left out anything we could only find a past-year listing for, including a Yonge North York Night Market and a Nowruz night at Mel Lastman Square. For dated, week-by-week listings, use the events hub and this weekend.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the biggest festivals in North York?

Three of the best-known free festivals held in North York are the Toronto Korean Festival (late August, Mel Lastman Square, free, held there since 2001), the North York Diwali Festival (Oct 23-25 in 2026, Mel Lastman Square, free) and Taste of North York (Jun 5-7 in 2026, Mel Lastman Square, free). Canada Day at Mel Lastman Square adds fireworks at 10 p.m.

Where do most North York festivals happen?

Mel Lastman Square, 5100 Yonge St (North York Centre station, Line 1) hosts the most: Taste of North York, Canada Day, the Korean Festival, the Diwali Festival, the Christmas Market and the Public Menorah Lighting. The Village at Black Creek (1000 Murray Ross Pkwy) and the Aga Khan Museum (77 Wynford Dr) are the other two anchors.

Which North York festivals are free?

Lunar New Year at North York Centre, Doors Open Toronto, Taste of North York, Canada Day, the Toronto Korean Festival, the North York Diwali Festival and Nowruz at the Aga Khan Museum were free in their most recent editions. The Village at Black Creek events (Fall Festival, Halloween, Festive Nights) are ticketed, and Summerlicious is a paid prix-fixe meal.

When is the next North York festival?

The next dated one is the North York Diwali Festival, Fri Oct 23 to Sun Oct 25, 2026, at Mel Lastman Square, followed by Halloween at The Village at Black Creek (Oct 24, 25 and 31) and the We Love Willowdale Christmas Market (Sat Nov 28). For dated listings, see our events hub.

Are the 2027 festival dates announced?

Not yet for most of them. This page gives each festival's typical month and its 2026 dates, and we update it when organizers publish 2027 dates. Lunar New Year, Ramadan and Eid, and Chanukah follow lunar calendars, so their dates move every year.

Is Salsa on St. Clair in North York?

No. It runs on St. Clair West between Winona Drive and Christie Street in midtown Toronto, about a Line 1 ride from North York. We list it as a nearby festival, alongside Luminato, the Jazz Festival and Taste of the Danforth.
