The 30-second answer

Thanksgiving 2026 is Monday, October 12. Almost everything closes — except the grocery store.

The long weekend runs Saturday, October 10 through Monday, October 12. Closed Monday: the LCBO, the Beer Store (mostly), Yorkdale, Fairview Mall, Bayview Village and Centerpoint, banks, Canada Post, Toronto Public Library branches, and every City of Toronto community recreation centre, indoor pool and indoor rink.

Open Monday, with caveats: big grocery banners like Metro and Loblaws typically run reduced hours, though discount chains such as No Frills and FreshCo are often closed at the owner-operator's call — phone ahead. Restaurants stay open, and a few run turkey-dinner specials. The TTC runs a Sunday-level schedule starting around 6 a.m. And there's no TDSB PA day tacked onto this weekend — school resumes Tuesday.

Turkey dinner, no dishes.

We only listed a spot here if we could confirm a standing or 2026 Thanksgiving menu directly from the restaurant — one cleared that bar. For the rest of North York's dining scene, see our full North York restaurant guide and call ahead; many sit-down spots add a holiday special closer to the date, but we couldn't verify specifics for 2026 yet.

The Keg Steakhouse + Bar — North York

📍 5015 Yonge Street, Toronto, M2N 5P1 · Line 1 · near North York Centre / Sheppard–Yonge

The Keg's annual Thanksgiving special is a three-course turkey dinner — choice of salad, a roasted turkey entrée, and a pumpkin drizzle cheesecake for dessert. It runs the Thanksgiving weekend at participating locations, including this North York room, available in the bar/lounge and on the patio where available. Takeout is offered too.

Book ahead: reservations open well before the long weekend and this is a popular room. Call 416-733-2555 or book online. If The Keg is full, call around the Yonge Street corridor directly — we couldn't independently confirm 2026 Thanksgiving menus for other North York restaurants as of press time.
The other half of the weekend

Fall colour, farms, and a trot.

Mid-October is close to peak fall colour in the GTA, and pumpkin season is in full swing at farms within about 45 minutes of North York. Here's how to spend the parts of the weekend that aren't at a dinner table.

Fall colour

Walk it off on a North York trail.

You don't need to leave the city for fall colour — the Don Valley and Blackwater ravine systems that thread through North York hit peak reds and golds right around Thanksgiving. Our North York fall hikes guide has the full list of trails, with notes on which ones are stroller-friendly and which have the best maple cover.

Pumpkin patches & farms · ~45 min drive

Three farms still running Thanksgiving weekend.

Downey's Farm Market (13682 Heart Lake Road, Caledon) runs Pumpkinfest daily, 9:30 AM–5 PM (last admission 4 PM), from mid-September through October 31 — tickets online in advance, none sold on-site. Brooks Farms (122 Ashworth Road, Mount Albert) runs its Fall Fun Festival weekends through October, including Thanksgiving Monday itself, 9 AM–4 PM (last admission 3 PM). Pingle's Farm Market (Hampton) runs its Harvest Festival Wednesday–Sunday, 9 AM–6 PM — note that's closed Mondays, so Pingle's is a Saturday or Sunday plan, not a Monday one.

Turkey trot

The Toronto Turkey Trot isn't in North York — but it's a tradition.

The city's long-running Thanksgiving 5K/1K, the Toronto Turkey Trot, has historically started at Cherry Beach Park on Thanksgiving weekend, raising money for the Daily Bread Food Bank. Its exact 2026 date and course weren't confirmed as of this writing — check torontoturkeytrot.netlify.app closer to the holiday. If you'd rather run closer to home, the Don Valley and West Don River trails both make for a solid self-guided 5K.

⚠ Calendar correction

Whittamore's Farm is not an option anymore.

Whittamore's Farm in Markham — for decades a go-to Thanksgiving pick-your-own and pumpkin patch — closed to the public permanently after more than 60 years in business. If it's on an old list you found, cross it off; Downey's, Brooks Farms and Pingle's are the standing alternatives within range of North York.

If you do one thing

Buy your LCBO run before Sunday night.

Every liquor store in the province closes Monday, and the Beer Store mostly follows. If wine or beer is part of your Thanksgiving table, Saturday or Sunday is the last call — not Monday morning. Grocery stores are the one category that mostly stays open, but even there, hours shrink and some discount banners close entirely.
